Walmir Carvalho kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Amauri Quirino during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 28 played minutes Catolé FC got a freekick which was hit by Amauri Quirino. Amauri Quirino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rui Souza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. 42 minutes into the match, Catolé FC's goal looked a bit too open when Clóvis Mumbach came free, but Sidnei França reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Catolé FC's zone, Clóvis Mumbach stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sidnei França came out of the goal and Clóvis Mumbach tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rui Souza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amauri Quirino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 63rd minute Manoel Dante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Souza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Clóvis Mumbach came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Piquizeiro fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clóvis Mumbach couldn't finish the play. Nelson Brodel might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rui Souza. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nelson Brodel ran back to his position shaking his head. 98 minutes into the match, Piquizeiro's goal looked a bit too open when Amauri Quirino came free, but Rui Souza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
