The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Dário da Mata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Mazinho Alves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcelinho Alvarenga in the 11th minute of the match. 13 minutes had been played when some careless play by CGMS FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nilmar Tavares was slow to take the kick. During this time Eme SC's players had a chance to rest. Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Mazinho Alves made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos in the 16th minute. 20 minutes into the match, Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of CGMS FC's Mazinho Alves. Mazinho Alves was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Mazinho Alves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcelinho Alvarenga, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Mazinho Alves made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos got free with Mazinho Alves in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mário Veiga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Caco Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 33rd match minute, CGMS FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvinho Souza to maneuver through the defense. After recieving a nice pass, Eme SC's Nilmar Tavares tried to score from far away in the 34th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Cleiton Rezende hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Mazinho Alves made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos sent off a good shot on target. 47 minutes into the game, CGMS FC's Dário da Mata nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mário Veiga made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Caco Martins made a kick off. When Silvinho Souza fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CGMS FC's protests and gave Silvinho Souza a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to CGMS FC getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Silvinho Souza hit a great ball. In the 55th minute of the match Leonardo Branco shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mazinho Alves showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Mário Veiga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caco Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. CGMS FC's Mazinho Alves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos in the 59th minute of play. 63 minutes in the game Luizinho Marques did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Dário da Mata. After a rather tough play, Eme SC's Leonardo Branco got a free kick in the 69th minute. Marcelinho Alvarenga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 76 minutes into the game, Eme SC's Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mazinho Alves made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. 82 minutes into the match, CGMS FC's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Paulo Vasconcelos came free, but Mazinho Alves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mazinho Alves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ernesto Moreno went, in the 83rd minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. Ernesto Moreno's late challenge caught a CGMS FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ernesto Moreno helped the player get up and apologised. Mazinho Alves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcelinho Alvarenga, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. After a defensive mix-up in CGMS FC's zone, Marcelinho Alvarenga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mazinho Alves came out of the goal and Marcelinho Alvarenga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the CGMS FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Eme SC.
