Kléberson Castro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augusto Moura in the 11th minute of the match. The supporters of Clube de Regatas MEC booed when Sapesal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge França didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 13th minute of the match Mesut Özil shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kléberson Castro showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Jorge França had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Sapesal's Clemente Linares got a free kick in the 18th minute. Gabriel de Souza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Severino Santana scored 0-1 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Guga Souza, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute Caio Vides shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guga Souza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Sapesal's goal looked a bit too open when Ezequiel Loureiro came free, but Kléberson Castro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gabriel de Souza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Kléberson Castro made a huge save. After 37 minutes of play, Clube de Regatas MEC's Augusto Moura made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kléberson Castro was left in no man's land by his defense there! Sapesal's Kléberson Castro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Sapesal from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gabriel de Souza got free with Kléberson Castro in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 47 minutes of play Sapesal's Inácio de Medeiros was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 48th match minute, Sapesal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Inácio de Medeiros to maneuver through the defense. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
