But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Alberto de Medeiros couldn't finish the play. Sandro de Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Through an outstanding action, after 8 minutes, Tomé Schmidt successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Sandro de Lara recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Santos Futebol Clube's Gilmar de Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Antônio de Lara in the 15th minute of play. Santos Futebol Clube were furious when Conrado Miranda was red carded, 18 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Conrado Miranda hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Raimundo Cerezo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Arnaldo Almeida received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Tomé Schmidt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tomé Schmidt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osvaldo Linares in the 27th minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Osvaldo Linares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Santos Futebol Clube players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Tesoura were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sandro de Lara to make the kick off. When Luís Guilherme Alves fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santos Futebol Clube's protests and gave Luís Guilherme Alves a yellow card for diving instead. In the 58th minute, Luís Guilherme Alves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tomé Schmidt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raimundo Cerezo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 61 minutes into the game, Santos Futebol Clube's Raimundo Cerezo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tomé Schmidt made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Osvaldo Linares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Osvaldo Linares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tomé Schmidt breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Santos Futebol Clube's Guto Madureira was substituted for Luís Guilherme Alves. After 66 played minutes Tesoura got a freekick which was hit by Antônio de Lara. 71 minutes into the match, Santos Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Ediberto Peres came free, but Gilmar de Lima reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ediberto Peres could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Gilmar de Lima made a huge save. If Ediberto Peres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Raimundo Cerezo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tesoura's Tomé Schmidt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raimundo Cerezo in the 85th minute of play. In the 86th minute Santos Futebol Clube were awarded a corner. Pedro Luís Ramos went to the cornerflag to take it. Santos Futebol Clube's Pedro Luís Ramos was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Tomé Schmidt in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Osvaldo Linares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomé Schmidt having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Tesoura's zone, Osvaldo Linares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tomé Schmidt came out of the goal and Osvaldo Linares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Carlos Alberto de Medeiros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Santos Futebol Clube's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
