David Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldo Meireles having to interfere. Edinho Favoretto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilberto Carvalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Washington Vasconcelos in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ronaldo Meireles saved Portella SC from getting behind. Gilberto Carvalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edinho Favoretto having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Portella SC's Edinho Favoretto threw himself towards the right post 45 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gilberto Carvalho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 45 minutes into the game, Gilberto Carvalho lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated Edinho Favoretto. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Ronaldo Meireles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Washington Vasconcelos in the 51st minute of the match. Portella SC's Célio Barreto got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 61 minutes, Célio Barreto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portella SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Célio Barreto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Célio Barreto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Célio Barreto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edinho Favoretto having to interfere. After having played for 72 minutes, Maurinho de Amaral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itaum EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maurinho de Amaral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Portella SC's Kléber Sá got a free kick in the 73rd minute. When Washington Vasconcelos came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Itaum EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Washington Vasconcelos couldn't finish the play. After 78 played minutes Portella SC got a freekick which was hit by Gilberto Carvalho. Célio Barreto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Edinho Favoretto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Gilberto Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 94th minute Célio Barreto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edinho Favoretto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gilberto Carvalho struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Edinho Favoretto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portella SC. Portella SC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
