Minas Gerais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hermínio da Silveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. 8 minutes into the match, Paulão Berger had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Iuri de Brito. C.F. Minas Gerais's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Paulão Berger was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Acácio Almeida in the 14th minute of play forced Capoeirana's goalkeeper Marcus Cavalcante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dalmo Motta in the 16th minute of play forced C.F. Minas Gerais's goalkeeper Iuri de Brito to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 17 minutes into the match, C.F. Minas Gerais's goal looked a bit too open when Júlio Dias came free, but Iuri de Brito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Iuri de Brito stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Júlio Dias's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. Iuri de Brito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Júlio Dias, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. In the 27th minute Luís Mangueira suffered a foot injury and had to be helped off the field. Júlio Dias's late challenge caught a C.F. Minas Gerais's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Júlio Dias helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th minute, Júlio Dias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Capoeirana's Júlio Dias got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 39th minute Júlio Dias suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Tiaguinho de Brito fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored C.F. Minas Gerais's protests and gave Tiaguinho de Brito a yellow card for diving instead. Tiaguinho de Brito kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Dalmo Motta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Iuri de Brito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dalmo Motta was the one to do the kick off. C.F. Minas Gerais's Iuri de Brito proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save C.F. Minas Gerais from getting a goal against them. Dalmo Motta spun around in front of the goal 54 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of C.F. Minas Gerais's goal. Marcus Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hermínio da Silveira in the 59th minute of the match. 61 minutes into the game, Francisco Madureira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. C.F. Minas Gerais's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Capoeirana the free kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dalmo Motta in the 63rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Iuri de Brito saved C.F. Minas Gerais from getting behind. C.F. Minas Gerais's Osvaldinho Machado managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Marcelo Albuquerque in the 70 minute of the game. Dalmo Motta who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 73rdth minute tested the skills of Iuri de Brito when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Paulão Berger hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Hermínio da Silveira might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcus Cavalcante. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hermínio da Silveira ran back to his position shaking his head. 86 minutes into the game, Tiaguinho Botelho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Capoeirana's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave C.F. Minas Gerais the free kick. If Hermínio da Silveira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Geovânio Zanette during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 93rd match minute, C.F. Minas Gerais was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tiaguinho de Brito to maneuver through the defense. Capoeirana were awarded a corner in the 96th minute after C.F. Minas Gerais's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Adalmo Lira took the corner. Adalmo Lira made a great header on Capoeirana's corner, it was just that C.F. Minas Gerais's Iuri de Brito managed to reach the ball for a save.
