Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) After a defensive mix-up in Santa Maria's zone, Gilberto Sá stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ian de Castro came out of the goal and Gilberto Sá tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Cássio Sá fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santa Maria's protests and gave Cássio Sá a yellow card for diving instead. Carlos Alberto de Barros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Gomes in the 12th minute of the match. 18 minutes into the game, Kiko Ferreira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Carandahy's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Santa Maria the free kick. Kiko Ferreira hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Gilberto Sá could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Ian de Castro made a huge save. João Paulo Sabóia was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 23rd minute. Carandahy's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Carlos Alberto de Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Remo Pena in the 26th minute of play. João Paulo Sabóia might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ian de Castro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. João Paulo Sabóia ran back to his position shaking his head. Rodrigo Gomes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Carandahy's goalkeeper Carlos Alberto de Barros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. João Paulo Sabóia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ian de Castro having to interfere. If Gilberto Sá had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell João Paulo Sabóia to make the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Gilberto Sá had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ian de Castro. Santa Maria's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gilberto Sá was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Lúcio Nascimento could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Carlos Alberto de Barros made a huge save. Ian de Castro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Paulo Sabóia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ian de Castro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Paulo Sabóia, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Rodrigo Gomess short, quick shot in the 67thth minute got Carlos Alberto de Barros to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 68 minutes of play, Santa Maria's Rodrigo Gomes made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carlos Alberto de Barros was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Remo Pena in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Alberto de Barros saved Carandahy from getting behind. Ian de Castro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Paulo Sabóia in the 77th minute of the match. If Gilberto Sá had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 83 minutes into the match, Carandahy's goal looked a bit too open when Remo Pena came free, but Carlos Alberto de Barros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Remo Pena was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 86th minute. Santa Maria's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Carandahy's goalkeeper Carlos Alberto de Barros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
