Eriberto de Senna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasco da Gama. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vinícius Pereira during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 9 played minutes Itirussu SC got a freekick which was hit by Vinícius Pereira. Vitório Freitas kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. A collision led to Itirussu SC getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Vitório Freitas hit a great ball. Vasco da Gama's Zé Paulo Esteves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vinícius Pereira in the 19th minute of play. Zé Paulo Esteves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Délio Azevedo in the 21st minute of the match. Wiliam Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eriberto de Senna having to interfere. After 26 minutes of play, Vasco da Gama's Cido Maranhense made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eriberto de Senna was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 29th minute of the game. One of Vasco da Gama:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Itirussu SC:s goal. The referee gave Itirussu SC a penalty, 32 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Renato Tinoco, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Vasco da Gama's Zé Paulo Esteves. 1-1. In the 36th minute Vitório Freitas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Paulo Esteves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlos Torres's late challenge caught a Itirussu SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos Torres helped the player get up and apologised. In the 39th minute, Carlos Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 42 minutes into the match, Itirussu SC's goalkeeper Eriberto de Senna had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wiliam Souza. If Wiliam Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zé Paulo Esteves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vitório Freitas in the 48th minute of the match.

The wind increased when Wiliam Souza made the kick off in the second half. After 52 played minutes Itirussu SC got a freekick which was hit by Renato Tinoco. The audience was convinced that Wiliam Souza's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eriberto de Senna was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. Wiliam Souza's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eriberto de Senna read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. Zé Paulo Esteves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vinícius Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. Zé Paulo Esteves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vladimir da Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cido Maranhense charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cido Maranhense the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Vasco da Gama getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Cido Maranhense hit a great ball. When Itirussu SC's Délio Azevedo in the 73rd minute got a chance for a shot 73rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Vasco da Gama's goalie prevented a goal. 74 minutes into the match, Vasco da Gama's goal looked a bit too open when Vladimir da Silva came free, but Zé Paulo Esteves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 79th minute, Bruno Guimarães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zé Paulo Esteves was out of position in the 81 minute of play, and Délio Azevedo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Délio Azevedo really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. After a rather tough play, Vasco da Gama's Carlos Torres got a free kick in the 86th minute. Wiliam Souza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
