The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 3rd minute of the game. One of Manoel:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Residencia:s goal. Ricardo Nascimento hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Manoel's goalkeeper Adrianinho Recife, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some careless play in the Manoel defense, Valdemar Xavier kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Adrianinho Recife. The Manoel fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Adrianinho Recife should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by César Carneiro in the 22nd minute of play forced Residencia's goalkeeper Manoel Maciel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Manoel getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Rafael Bertassi hit a great ball. If Valdemar Xavier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 41st minute, Rafael Bertassi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sílvio Luís Gomes, 42 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. If Dida Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. César Carneiro was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute Valdemar Xavier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Adrianinho Recife saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Valdemar Xavier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Adrianinho Recife tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Manoel's Caco Tróia got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manoel Maciel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tarcisio Dante in the 59th minute of play. Alfredo Freitas hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Dida Valladares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Christian Nunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Christian Nunes kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Adrianinho Recife made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdemar Xavier in the 80th minute of play. In the 84th minute of the match, Valdemar Xavier tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Adrianinho Recife saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Manoel Gaspar hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Residencia's Valdemar Xavier got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dida Valladares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Adrianinho Recife made a huge save. After having played for 93 minutes, Valdemar Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Residencia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdemar Xavier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dida Valladaress short, quick shot in the 94thth minute got Adrianinho Recife to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 95 minutes, Alfredo Freitas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Manoel and the Residencia players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 95th minute, Alfredo Freitas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dida Valladares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Adrianinho Recife tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Residencia players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
