The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Farroupilha FC getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Luís Fabiano Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roberto Machado in the 12th minute of the match. In the 13th minute Edu Gomes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erik Cordeiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Farroupilha FC's Edu Gomes was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Erik Cordeiro in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 16 minutes into the match, Edu Gomes notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Limão Com Mel's Erik Cordeiro. Erik Cordeiro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sidney Cavalcante hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Doni Koehler kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edu Gomes in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erik Cordeiro saved Limão Com Mel from getting behind. Andrézinho Abreu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 38th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Erik Cordeiro. Limão Com Mel's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by José Carlos Trancoso during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. José Carlos Trancoso hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. The supporters of Limão Com Mel booed when Farroupilha FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Doni Koehler didn't get a good kick on the ball. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Erik Cordeiro was out of position in the 51 minute of play, and Edu Gomes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Edu Gomes really showed his touch with that goal: 0-2. In the 56th match minute, Farroupilha FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gilmar Pinho to maneuver through the defense. Edu Gomes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Farroupilha FC's Doni Koehler got a free kick in the 81st minute. With 84 minutes on the clock, Sidney Cavalcante commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 84th minute of the game. The Farroupilha FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Farroupilha FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
