Lúcio Simões made an important save on a dangerous shot by Habib Ali Picavea in the 15th minute. Gláuber Brodel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tiburcio Iago in the 17th minute of play. When Reynaldo Dante fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Schalke 04's protests and gave Reynaldo Dante a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to FC Schalke 04 getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Reynaldo Dante hit a great ball. Toninho Grau recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hélder Velasco in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Kordalewski in the 25th minute of play forced Morro Grande E.C's goalkeeper Gláuber Brodel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hélder Velasco in the 45th minute of play. Lúcio Simões took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronaldinho Meira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Habib Ali Picavea to make the kick off. Lúcio Simões showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hélder Velasco, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Robert Kordalewski got free with Gláuber Brodel in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 64th minute Habib Ali Picavea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Simões saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Morro Grande E.C's Toninho Grau got a free kick in the 66th minute. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Habib Ali Picavea in the 72nd minute of play. Gheorghe Baldu's late challenge caught a Morro Grande E.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gheorghe Baldu helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Morro Grande E.C booed when FC Schalke 04 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gheorghe Baldu didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Hélder Velasco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lúcio Simões was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. Gláuber Brodel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robert Kordalewski in the 83rd minute of play. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Habib Ali Picavea in the 85th minute of play. 91 minutes into the match, FC Schalke 04's goal looked a bit too open when Habib Ali Picavea came free, but Lúcio Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Toninho Grau kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Schalke 04 had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
