After a defensive mix-up in Vila Nova F.C's zone, Battal Gazi Hürmüz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roberto Batista came out of the goal and Battal Gazi Hürmüz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 7th match minute, Vila Nova F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roberto de Medeiros to maneuver through the defense. Caraguatei's Jaime de Queiroz got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Caraguatei's Battal Gazi Hürmüz got a free kick in the 12th minute. Roberto Batista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime de Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Roberto Batista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaime de Queiroz in the 19th minute of the match. If Battal Gazi Hürmüz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roberto Batista came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Caraguatei's Jaime de Queiroz. But to his dismay, Jaime de Queiroz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Roberto Batista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime de Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Cruz Gene fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vila Nova F.C's protests and gave Cruz Gene a yellow card for diving instead. If Jaime de Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 44 played minutes Caraguatei got a freekick which was hit by Jaime de Queiroz. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 54th minute Jaime de Queiroz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roberto Batista saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Roberto Batista had great luck who in the 58thth minute grab hold of the ball when Jaime de Queiroz from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jaime de Queiroz in the 61st minute of play forced Vila Nova F.C's goalkeeper Roberto Batista to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an all-out effort, Caraguatei's Roberto Batista threw himself towards the right post 63 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jaime de Queiroz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Battal Gazi Hürmüz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 69 minutes into the match, Vila Nova F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime de Queiroz came free, but Roberto Batista reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jaime de Queiroz might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roberto Batista. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jaime de Queiroz ran back to his position shaking his head. Dadá Soares blasted a shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Roberto Batista having to make a save. Roberto Batista made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaime de Queiroz in the 86th minute of play. Battal Gazi Hürmüz's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 94thth minute, Roberto Batista skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After a rather tough play, Vila Nova F.C's Luís Paulo Rosado got a free kick in the 94th minute. Caraguatei played a much better game than Vila Nova F.C and deserved their victory. The Vila Nova F.C players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
