The audience was convinced that Paolo Rossi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Antonio Marino was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. In the 31st minute Benito Ceandro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uriel Poz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 32 minutes into the game, El Cheto's Jonatan Boni nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Antonio Marino made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Antonio Marino stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paolo Rossi's shot from short distance in the 40th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paolo Rossi in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Antonio Marino saved La Mervaleta from getting behind. When Favila Llinares came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the El Cheto fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Favila Llinares couldn't finish the play. Jaime Valentine could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Uriel Poz made a huge save. El Cheto's Uriel Poz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benito Ceandro in the 48th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Favila Llinares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Benito Ceandro hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Antonio Marino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Favila Llinares, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. When the match had gone on for 81 minutes, Favila Llinares took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Antonio Marino to make any attempt to save it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paolo Rossi got free with Antonio Marino in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Paolo Rossi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched El Cheto eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
