In the 5th minute of the match Duach Gaoler shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ysgawyn Kavanagh showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Dylan Long made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ceithin Eaton in the 7th minute. In the 8th minute, Barris Foote hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Duach Gaoler came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Caerleon Utd fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Duach Gaoler couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Caerleon Utd booed when Ely was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gwyglet Garth didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 91stth minute of the game Modred Farley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Caerleon Utd's Dylan Long was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 95th minute, Modred Farley left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ely fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. There was no doubt that Ely were the better team. Ely's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
