The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Nicolas Pegado managed to get in a good position for a shot. Madeira S.A.D.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Nicolas Pegado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eusébio Queirós breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 4 minutes into the match, Azevedos's goal looked a bit too open when Nicolas Pegado came free, but Eusébio Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Valentim Pestana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eusébio Queirós having to interfere. In the 12th match minute, Azevedos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Heitor Guarda to maneuver through the defense. Ricardo Lima's late challenge caught a Madeira S.A.D.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ricardo Lima helped the player get up and apologised. In the 14th match minute, Azevedos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Lima to maneuver through the defense. Eusébio Queirós didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Flávio Osório went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 20th minute Álvaro Faria shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abílio Fernandes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Abílio Fernandes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Álvaro Faria, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. A collision led to Madeira S.A.D. getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Mateus Perdigão hit a great ball. Mário Miranda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abílio Fernandes having to interfere. Eusébio Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Flávio Osório, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Valentim Pestana in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eusébio Queirós prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 35 minutes, Mário Miranda managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Azevedos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mário Miranda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 39 minutes into the game, Azevedos's Mário Miranda nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Abílio Fernandes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Álvaro Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abílio Fernandes having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Flávio Osório stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Heitor Guarda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Abílio Fernandes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Azevedos's Eusébio Queirós proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Azevedos from getting a goal against them. Flávio Osório sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eusébio Queirós made an important save on a dangerous shot by Valentim Pestana in the 72nd minute. Flávio Osório might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eusébio Queirós. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Flávio Osório ran back to his position shaking his head. Flávio Osório received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Eusébio Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Álvaro Faria recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Flávio Osório struck a weak shot in the 87th minute. Eusébio Queirós didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Madeira S.A.D.. Eusébio Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flávio Osório, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Abílio Fernandes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mário Miranda in the 92nd minute of play. Valentim Pestana could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Eusébio Queirós made a huge save.
