After a rather tough play, Pombares FC's Bruno Porto got a free kick in the 4th minute. Angélico Magalhães did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Paulo Baptista 5 minutes into the match. 8 minutes into the match, Oliveira Gomes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ivan Peralta. Sporting CP's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Oliveira Gomes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Eusébio Moniz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Ivan Peralta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eusébio Moniz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 23rd minute, Angélico Magalhães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Anselmo Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 34 minutes, Eduardo Branco mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Pombares FC and the Sporting CP players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some careless play in the Pombares FC defense, Carlos Estrada kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Paulo Baptista. The Pombares FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paulo Baptista should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Angélico Magalhães was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Sporting CP getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Carlos Estrada hit a great ball. Oliveira Gomes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Peralta having to interfere. Angélico Magalhães took the ball and in the 55 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Paulo Baptista. Paulo Baptista dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. In the 60th minute, Pombares FC's Armindo Miranda ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ivan Peralta. Ivan Peralta yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-2. After a defensive mix-up in Pombares FC's zone, Angélico Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo Baptista came out of the goal and Angélico Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Anselmo Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eusébio Moniz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Cristóvão Infante fell near the penalty area in the 72nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sporting CP's protests and gave Cristóvão Infante a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Sporting CP getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Cristóvão Infante hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, Oliveira Gomes took a quick shot and it went in 3-3 without a chance for Ivan Peralta to make any attempt to save it. In the 82nd minute, Angélico Magalhães got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Angélico Magalhães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Paulo Baptista tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ivan Peralta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oliveira Gomes, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. If Oliveira Gomes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
