The referee ignored SC Graciosa's protests and gave Tomás Monteiro a yellow card for diving instead. Tomás Monteiro hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Luís Araújo struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Mariano Moura didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gioes. If Luís Araújo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Leão in the 19th minute of play forced Gioes's goalkeeper Vasco Soares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jorge Leão struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Vasco Soares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Graciosa. With a little luck, SC Graciosa's Mariano Moura got control of the ball when Luís Araújo tried to sneak it across the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. José Mendes was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of SC Graciosa booed when Gioes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Inácio Lopes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Adolfo Brito kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Afonso Carvalho in the 64th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mariano Moura saved SC Graciosa from getting behind. 74 minutes into the match, SC Graciosa's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Carvalho came free, but Mariano Moura reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Gioes's Luís Araújo, in the 75th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Gioes. Jorge Leão scored 0-1 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vasco Soares, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. SC Graciosa walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
