In a very dangerous position, a player in Stanway United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 12th minute. Penalty! Chris Taylor hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute, Craig Robinson sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Leyland's Zak Davison didn't even have to move. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfie Clarke in the 26th minute of play forced Stanway United's goalkeeper Danny Chivers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Stanway United's Jez Oldroyd sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zak Davison narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Kasey Reading fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danny Chivers having to interfere. If Liam Wakefield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Liam Wakefield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Liam Wakefield could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Zak Davison made a huge save. Leyland's Zak Davison played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jez Oldroyd in the 41st minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jez Oldroyd to make the kick off. Stanway United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jez Oldroyd was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Danny Chivers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kasey Reading , who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. In the 78th minute Liam Wakefield shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zak Davison saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Danny Chivers came out of the goal and Kasey Reading tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Leyland had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
