Sam Neville scored 0-3 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nigel Hill, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 19 minutes into the game, Newcastle-under-Lyme's Joey Adams nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nigel Hill made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Sam Neville struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Nigel Hill didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newcastle-under-Lyme. In the 29th minute of the match Florencio Maureo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Andrew Rea skillfully saved the ball. In the 30th minute, Andy Baird left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newcastle-under-Lyme fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. 33 minutes into the game, Newcastle-under-Lyme's Joey Adams nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-7.

The wind increased when Kris Jewson made the kick off in the second half. Kris Jewson might have been able to make a better finish in the 51st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Andrew Rea. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kris Jewson ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 52ndth minute of the game Kris Jewson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newcastle-under-Lyme's Andrew Rea was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Joey Adams received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Nigel Hill tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Newcastle-under-Lyme booed when Garstang AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Milosz Literski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Newcastle-under-Lyme's Andrew Wardman was substituted for Gordon Locking. In the 70th minute, Andy Baird ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nigel Hill was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-8. Peter Baum could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Nigel Hill made a huge save. Garstang AFC's Nigel Hill proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Garstang AFC from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sam Neville in the 88th minute of play forced Garstang AFC's goalkeeper Nigel Hill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Steve Mayall during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
