Dublin AFC's Denny McWill played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tormaigh McJames in the 3rd minute of play. 6 minutes into the match, Dublin AFC's Tirloch Moran sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Blathma John narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leon Caffey in the 13th minute of play forced Dublin AFC's goalkeeper Denny McWill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 14 played minutes Derryclure FC got a freekick which was hit by Hugh Johnson. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leon Caffey in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Denny McWill prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Baptist Brennan came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Derryclure FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Baptist Brennan couldn't finish the play. Dublin AFC's Tirloch Moran got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Branson McMichel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tormaigh McJames sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Derryclure FC's Gerald Gallagher got a free kick in the 35th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Dublin AFC's zone, Leon Caffey stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Denny McWill came out of the goal and Leon Caffey tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Derryclure FC booed when Dublin AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kealan Hunt didn't get a good kick on the ball.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tirloch Moran to make the kick off. When Gerald Gallagher fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Derryclure FC's protests and gave Gerald Gallagher a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Dublin AFC booed when Derryclure FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gerald Gallagher didn't get a good kick on the ball.
