Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Brynn Pitman started the match with the kick off. Stephen Sharples charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Stephen Sharples the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Whickham United booed when Ludlow was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stephen Sharples didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kurt Denham's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Philip Hargrave read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. 20 minutes into the game, Whickham United's Vance Marriott nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zak McGrath made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Denzil Broadhead during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Philip Hargrave made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kurt Denham in the 32nd minute. After 42 played minutes Ludlow got a freekick which was hit by Stephen Sharples. Ludlow's Zak McGrath played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kev Brearley in the 44th minute of play. Vance Marriott recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
An unexpectedly hard shot by Kev Brearley in the 52nd minute of play forced Ludlow's goalkeeper Zak McGrath to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vance Marriott sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Ludlow's zone, Vance Marriott stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zak McGrath came out of the goal and Vance Marriott tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Olly Niven hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Kev Brearley was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 64th minute. Whickham United's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. With a little luck, Ludlow's Zak McGrath got control of the ball when Vance Marriott tried to sneak it across the goal line. Philip Hargrave took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kurt Denham, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Kev Brearley came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Whickham United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kev Brearley couldn't finish the play. Vance Marriott received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Zak McGrath tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Brynn Pitman during the 73rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 73rd minute, Brynn Pitman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Whickham United's Bruce Waltham got a free kick in the 75th minute. Zak McGrath made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kev Brearley in the 93rd minute of play. Vance Marriott sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Whickham United's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
