Vernon Langley in the 21stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Lee Woodhead, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Vernon Langleys short, quick shot in the 23rdth minute got Lee Woodhead to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Vernon Langley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 26 played minutes Great Ayton United got a freekick which was hit by Trevor Newman. Blackpool's Stu Oliver played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alan Chegwyn in the 31st minute of play. Vernon Langley came free with the goalkeeper in the 33rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Lee Woodhead could save by the left post. In the 34th minute, Alan Chegwyn got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Timothy Pitt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lee Woodhead having to interfere. If Alan Chegwyn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tony Horner to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd match minute, Great Ayton United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Chegwyn to maneuver through the defense. Lee Woodhead came out of the goal in the 57th minute to try and stop a shot by Blackpool's Vernon Langley. But to his dismay, Vernon Langley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. 70 minutes into the match, Great Ayton United's goal looked a bit too open when Vernon Langley came free, but Lee Woodhead reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Great Ayton United's Lenny Woodward got a free kick in the 71st minute. After 72 played minutes, Blackpool's Ash Rockett shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lee Woodhead came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
