Graham Coulthard blasted a shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lee Woodhead having to make a save. Harvey Bass charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Harvey Bass the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 15thth minute of the game Harvey Bass who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Great Ayton United's Lee Woodhead was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Harvey Bass sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Graham Coulthard in the 18th minute of play forced Great Ayton United's goalkeeper Lee Woodhead to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Great Ayton United booed when Thornbury was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Graham Coulthard didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lee Woodhead made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harvey Bass in the 24th minute of play. Nat Stonebridge kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Harvey Bass sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Thornbury's Damion Byfield got control of the ball when Alan Chegwyn tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 48th minute, Alan Chegwyn fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Damion Byfield, passed just outside the right post. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

After having played for 54 minutes, Alan Chegwyn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Great Ayton United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alan Chegwyn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thornbury's Harvey Bass got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 0-1 became the score in the 58th minute when Graham Coulthard elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 63 minutes into the match, Great Ayton United's goalkeeper Lee Woodhead had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Graham Coulthard. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Harvey Bass in the 64th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lee Woodhead prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Graham Coulthard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Lee Woodhead tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Great Ayton United's Lee Woodhead played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harvey Bass in the 69th minute of play. 72 minutes into the match, Great Ayton United's goal looked a bit too open when Harvey Bass came free, but Lee Woodhead reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Graham Coulthard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Thornbury's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal.
