Gary Boulding showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zack Kear in the 3rd minute of the match. In the 6th minute, Donald Croxford got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Southbourne City's Norman Marriott suffered a concussion after 8 minutes and had to leave the field. After 8 minutes, Jeremy Longthorn mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Golders Green United and the Southbourne City players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Southbourne City booed when Golders Green United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeremy Longthorn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lance Bridge stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gerry Kerridge's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. Gerry Kerridge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lance Bridge having to interfere. If Bobby Tinker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Lance Bridge came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Golders Green United's Bobby Tinker. But to his dismay, Bobby Tinker quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After a rather tough play, Golders Green United's Denny Button got a free kick in the 30th minute. Gerry Kerridge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Zack Kear scored 1-1 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gary Boulding, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the Golders Green United defense, Zack Kear kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gary Boulding. The Golders Green United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gary Boulding should have stopped the shot. Golders Green United's Gerry Kerridge got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After the first half Southbourne City were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Gary Boulding made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Zack Kear sent off a good shot on target. If Zack Kear had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Zack Kear struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Gary Boulding didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Southbourne City. Denny Button fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lance Bridge having to interfere. Southbourne City's Lance Bridge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gerry Kerridge in the 65th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Bobby Tinker's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lance Bridge was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bobby Tinker in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lance Bridge prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 78th minute, Donald Croxford hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 81 minutes into the match, Gerry Kerridge notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Southbourne City's Lance Bridge. Lance Bridge was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Southbourne City's goalkeeper Lance Bridge, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 86th minute Golders Green United were awarded a corner. Will Flower went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Golders Green United's corner Will Flower fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lance Bridge quite easily take care of the ball. Lance Bridge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerry Kerridge, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
