Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sam Lambourne in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Reggie Leeson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Carl Rowell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frankie Starr in the 19th minute of the match. Frankie Starr recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Verne McNiven had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The attack was good, but when Sam Lambourne in the 30th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Ivan Lynch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Carl Rowell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Frankie Starr was the one to do the kick off.
