In the 8th minute, Archie Barker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ricky Fordham in the 10th minute of play forced F.C.Bulan's goalkeeper Martin Powell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ricky Fordham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Martin Powell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ricky Fordham, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 18 minutes into the match, Hastings's goal looked a bit too open when Kenny Tinker came free, but Ralph Tinker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner ended in Jez Whittington almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Hastings's Ralph Tinker did a great save. Martin Powell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricky Fordham in the 22nd minute of play. In the 23rd minute Trey Trunks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martin Powell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Kenny Tinker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the game, Ricky Fordham cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Martin Powell was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jonny Shaw's late challenge caught a F.C.Bulan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jonny Shaw helped the player get up and apologised. Jonny Shaw kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Jez Whittington received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Ralph Tinker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Jez Whittington managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C.Bulan's supporters rose to their feet, but Jez Whittington was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ralph Tinker breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. F.C.Bulan's Kenny Tinker got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Kenny Tinker received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Ralph Tinker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Hastings's Trey Trunks got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Kenny Tinker managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C.Bulan's supporters rose to their feet, but Kenny Tinker was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ralph Tinker breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of F.C.Bulan booed when Hastings was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bradley Pritchard didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kenny Tinker sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
