The audience thought a goal was coming when Johnnie Baker got free with Denny Seaman in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nathanial Reading might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Denny Seaman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nathanial Reading ran back to his position shaking his head. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When Jim Lewington fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wem FC's protests and gave Jim Lewington a yellow card for diving instead.
