The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Stevie Westwood showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Seb Aspinall in the 16th minute of the match. In the 18thth minute of the game Seb Aspinall who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Plymouth FC's Stevie Westwood was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Fred Beech managed to get in a good position for a shot. Plymouth FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Fred Beech was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Matthew Halliday breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Stevie Westwood tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 0-1 became the score in the 35th minute when Justin Cadwallader elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Nicky Portway who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 45thth minute tested the skills of Stevie Westwood when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The Cromer players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Plymouth FC were winning 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Justin Cadwallader was the one to do the kick off. Peter Clist kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. If Seb Aspinall had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Stevie Westwood stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nicky Portway's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Plymouth FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Justin Cadwallader was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Dale Atkins came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Cromer fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dale Atkins couldn't finish the play. In the 88th minute, Nicky Portway got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dennis Heslop during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
