In the 6th minute, Thomas Hill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 7 minutes of play, Walford's Jeff Taggart made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Stewart Downes was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 10th minute, Sammy Tanner got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Wesley Ridgeway hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. In the 16th minute of the match Leo Carpenter shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Al Wagstaff showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Gez Brownlow sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stewart Downes didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kristopher Bonds went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jeff Taggart in the 28th minute of play forced Gillingham Town fc's goalkeeper Stewart Downes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Walford booed when Gillingham Town fc was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thomas Hill didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 32nd minute Kristopher Bonds shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stewart Downes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sammy Tanner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 38th minute, Tristan Gerrard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sammy Tanner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sammy Tanner struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Al Wagstaff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gillingham Town fc. The Gillingham Town fc fans' excitement grew in the 47th match minute when Gillingham Town fc's Sammy Tanner looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sammy Tanner to make the kick off. Stewart Downes didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jeff Taggart went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Stewart Downes made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Jeff Taggart sent off a good shot on target. In a very dangerous position, a player in Gillingham Town fc fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 59th minute. Penalty! When the match had been going on for 61 minutes, Walford's Don Foley got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Stewart Downes. After a rather tough play, Gillingham Town fc's Sam Shipley got a free kick in the 65th minute. Kristopher Bonds struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Stewart Downes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Walford. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gez Brownlow got free with Stewart Downes in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Tristan Gerrard managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gillingham Town fc's supporters rose to their feet, but Tristan Gerrard was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Al Wagstaff breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Tristan Gerrard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 82 minutes into the match, Tristan Gerrard had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Al Wagstaff. Walford's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tristan Gerrard was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-4. Gillingham Town fc's Stewart Downes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristopher Bonds in the 85th minute of play. 88 minutes into the game, Jeff Taggart recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Stewart Downes. Jeff Taggart showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-5. Sebastien Higginson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Stewart Downes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sebastien Higginson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 95 minutes into the match, Gillingham Town fc's goalkeeper Stewart Downes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jeff Taggart. Stewart Downes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 99 minutes into the match, Gillingham Town fc's goal looked a bit too open when Kristopher Bonds came free, but Stewart Downes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Walford played a much better game than Gillingham Town fc and deserved their victory. The Gillingham Town fc players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
