Cranbrook Stadium

Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Derek Poynton started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. In the 5th match minute, Cranbrook was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brandon Whieldon to maneuver through the defense. Derek Poynton struck a weak shot in the 8th minute. Bruce Cain didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gedling City. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Austen Woodhead in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bruce Cain prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 12 minutes, Brandon Whieldon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cranbrook and the Gedling City players grew even worse after the yellow card. Brandon Whieldon kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Austen Woodhead received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Bruce Cain tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 0-1 became the score in the 15th minute when Austen Woodhead elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. James Kirk made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sean Thomson in the 20th minute. Bruce Cain came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Gedling City's Derek Poynton. But to his dismay, Derek Poynton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Sly Frain kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Derek Poynton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 41 minutes, Fraser Ellerby mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gedling City and the Cranbrook players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Gedling City getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Fraser Ellerby hit a great ball. James Kirk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stew Bedford, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Stew Bedford to strike the kick off in the second half. If Austen Woodhead had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fraser Ellerby was shown his second yellow card after 65 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Stew Bedford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. James Kirk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 71st minute, Stew Bedford hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Stew Bedford's late challenge caught a Gedling City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stew Bedford helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Gedling City booed when Cranbrook was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stew Bedford didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Cranbrook's zone, Austen Woodhead stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bruce Cain came out of the goal and Austen Woodhead tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Kyle Emmerson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 82nd minute Stew Bedford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but James Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Austen Woodhead fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bruce Cain having to interfere. Cranbrook's Bruce Cain proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Cranbrook from getting a goal against them. Austen Woodhead struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Bruce Cain didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gedling City. When Brandon Whieldon was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 93 minutes had been played. A collision led to Cranbrook getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Brandon Whieldon hit a great ball. Austen Woodhead could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Bruce Cain made a huge save. Gedling City's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
