In the 19th minute, one of Bouvine FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Bouvine FC. In the 21st minute there was a penalty for Wolverhampton. Abraham Taylor stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Wally Holdcroft. 0-1. 32 minutes into the match, Bouvine FC's goal looked a bit too open when David Reid came free, but Wally Holdcroft reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dean Edwards in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wally Holdcroft prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 40th minute, David Reid ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wally Holdcroft was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. When Dean Edwards came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Wolverhampton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dean Edwards couldn't finish the play.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Al Ansell was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Al Ansell in the 55th minute of play forced Wolverhampton's goalkeeper Nial Myers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Wolverhampton's zone, Al Ansell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nial Myers came out of the goal and Al Ansell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Al Ansell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nial Myers having to interfere. If Al Ansell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Simon Hutchinson scored 1-2 in the 64th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nial Myers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 76 played minutes Bouvine FC got a freekick which was hit by Vernon Vine. David Reid recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Wally Holdcroft made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Reid in the 79th minute of play. Vernon Vine hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. In the 86th match minute, Bouvine FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jonathan Sugden to maneuver through the defense. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Wolverhampton eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
