Alda Chivukuvuku sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 5th minute, Luís Roma hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ivó Pereira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Pompílio Odemira's late challenge caught a CF Valentes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pompílio Odemira helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Royston's Pompílio Odemira got a free kick in the 21st minute. CF Valentes's Marcelo Sá couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Royston. Nuno Onas made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Vítor Sá sent off a good shot on target. If Carlos Malheiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 34 minutes into the game, Royston's Carlos Malheiro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alda Almeida made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Vítor Sá could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Nuno Onas made a huge save. If Vítor Sá had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Nuno Onas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Flavio Chivukuvuku in the 81st minute of play. Alda Almeida made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alda Chivukuvuku in the 82nd minute. Alda Chivukuvuku fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alda Almeida having to interfere.
