Kent Beck's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Matthias Lind read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Tord Lindgren recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Rentjärn's defense didn't have a chance, in the 13th minute, when Tord Lindgren scored to the left of an out of position Matthias Lind, making the score, 1-0. The supporters of AIK booed when Rentjärn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thomas Forsberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tord Lindgren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rentjärn's defense didn't have a chance, in the 25th minute, when Tord Lindgren scored to the left of an out of position Matthias Lind, making the score, 2-0. Rentjärn's Matthias Lind proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Rentjärn from getting a goal against them. Torsten Hjortberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gert Löv, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Thomas Forsberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Torsten Hjortberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thomas Forsberg in the 37th minute of the match. In the 38th minute Tord Lindgren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthias Lind saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 39th minute by Kent Beck got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Thomas Forsberg struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Torsten Hjortberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rentjärn. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tord Lindgren to make the kick off.
