The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Albin Håkansson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Stefan Pedersson in the 17th minute. Kilkenny's Albin Håkansson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Timmy Bergstedt in the 22nd minute of play. 30 minutes into the game, Patrik Salkvist was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Övertorneå FF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kilkenny the free kick. In the 32nd minute of the match Erik Hylander sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Christian Josefsson skillfully saved the ball. 36 minutes into the game, Övertorneå FF's Stefan Pedersson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Albin Håkansson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 45th minute Erik Brenner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christian Josefsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kilkenny's Erik Hylander couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 48th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Övertorneå FF. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Olof Lönn made a kick off. Timmy Bergstedt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Albin Håkansson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Olof Lönn in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Christian Josefsson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Stefan Pedersson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Övertorneå FF's supporters rose to their feet, but Stefan Pedersson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Albin Håkansson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 73 played minutes Övertorneå FF got a freekick which was hit by Stefan Österlund. When Pål Vester fell near the penalty area in the 75th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kilkenny's protests and gave Pål Vester a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Kilkenny getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Pål Vester hit a great ball. Stefan Österlund charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Stefan Österlund the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Patrik Salkvist was shown his second yellow card after 81 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Patrik Salkvist hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. 88 minutes into the match, Övertorneå FF's goalkeeper Christian Josefsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Erik Brenner. For all the effort they put into the match, the Kilkenny players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Övertorneå FF.
