The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Stompwijk's Kristian Haas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Timmie Roewen in the 3rd minute of play. When Sjef Scheerhoorn fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Notter's protests and gave Sjef Scheerhoorn a yellow card for diving instead. In the 49th minute, Olof Niekamp fired a really elegant long shot, but Rudolf Everts threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
