The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vincent Opdam during the 2nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 2nd minute, Vincent Opdam hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Elbert Blikman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kees Buys sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Berry Planting made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Patrick Roordink sent off a good shot on target. Vincent Opdam got his second yellow card in the match during the 13th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 14th match minute, Sparta Rotterdam was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vincent Opdam to maneuver through the defense. If Elbert Blikman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Wetsens fans' excitement grew in the 19th match minute when Wetsens's Elbert Blikman looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elbert Blikman in the 23rd minute of play forced Sparta Rotterdam's goalkeeper Leendert Meulenbergh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 30 minutes into the game, Elbert Blikman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Wetsens's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sparta Rotterdam the free kick. Elbert Blikman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Leendert Meulenbergh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kees Buys, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Kees Buys blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leendert Meulenbergh having to make a save. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Elbert Blikman made the kick off in the second half. 57 minutes into the game, Remco Kruis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sparta Rotterdam's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wetsens the free kick. Leendert Meulenbergh was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Demy van Putten. In the 62nd match minute, Wetsens was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lennart de Boer to maneuver through the defense. Harmen Oosterveld sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Sparta Rotterdam's Fernando Ritsma got a free kick in the 70th minute. In the 71st minute, Demy van Putten sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Sparta Rotterdam's Leendert Meulenbergh didn't even have to move. A collision led to Sparta Rotterdam getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Mike Ijksma hit a great ball. With a little luck, Sparta Rotterdam's Leendert Meulenbergh got control of the ball when Mike Kielstra tried to sneak it across the goal line. Leendert Meulenbergh was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Elbert Blikman showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 80 minute of play. 85 minutes into the match, Sparta Rotterdam's goalkeeper Leendert Meulenbergh had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kees Buys. Kees Buys sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 88th minute Elbert Blikman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leendert Meulenbergh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Elbert Blikman was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 89th minute. Wetsens's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 91st minute, Wetsens's Elbert Blikman dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. When the final whistle sounded Wetsens left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Sparta Rotterdam.
