The audience thought a goal was coming when Jake Montebello got free with Evan Lia in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Evan Lia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Keith Xuereb in the 16th minute of the match. Dylan Mifsud hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Nikolai Griffin's late challenge caught a Marsa FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nikolai Griffin helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd match minute, Marsa FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robert Carbonaro to maneuver through the defense. After 24 played minutes, Balzan's Giorgio Soler shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tim Dimech came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Marsa FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Balzan the free kick. Owen Mifsud hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. A collision led to Balzan getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Dylan Mifsud hit a great ball. In the 61st match minute, Marsa FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mark Fabri to maneuver through the defense. Marsa FC's Jake Montebello got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Matthew Carabott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 67 minutes, Keith Xuereb managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Marsa FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Keith Xuereb was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Through an outstanding action, after 70 minutes, Tim Dimech successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Kurt Vella made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 75thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Tim Dimech would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Josh Cuschieri during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Balzan's Evan Lia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Keith Xuereb in the 81st minute of play. 86 minutes into the game, Bjorn Pace Bonello cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Evan Lia was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Kurt Vella's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tim Dimech read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Marsa FC's goalkeeper Tim Dimech had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kurt Vella. Kurt Vella's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Tim Dimech firmly grabbed it by the left post.
