When Stefan Wilkinson came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Hove fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Stefan Wilkinson couldn't finish the play. 20 minutes into the game, Henry Hilgendorf was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Woking's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hove the free kick. After 43 minutes, Will Shields mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hove and the Woking players grew even worse after the yellow card. The audience was convinced that Armin Favre's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Richie Clay was relentless in the 77th minute of the game.
