The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Santurtzi AFC's Che Higuera nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. René Pais made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The long shot by Claudio Nueva in the 8th minute really tested Nicanor Rallo's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Aristeo Vuelta succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 9th playminute. Real Santander CF's René Pais played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurin Garay in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th minute Che Higuera shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but René Pais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 18 minutes into the match, Real Santander CF's goal looked a bit too open when Maurin Garay came free, but René Pais reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Santurtzi AFC booed when Real Santander CF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aquiles Suarez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aristeo Vuelta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicanor Rallo having to interfere. Aristeo Vueltas short, quick shot in the 34thth minute got Nicanor Rallo to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 41st minute, Atilano Vilanova made a precise shot to the right of René Pais. Real Santander CF's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. In the 47th minute Atilano Vilanova shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but René Pais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

René Pais showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Atilano Vilanova in the 92nd minute of the match. Maurin Garay could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but René Pais made a huge save. 94 minutes into the match, Real Santander CF's goal looked a bit too open when Atilano Vilanova came free, but René Pais reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Silvano Japón lost his temper 96 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Xalbador Salazar placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Santurtzi AFC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
