The goalkeeper, Matti Bar, was totally fooled by Deixlfurt's Gunter Barthel, who 23 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Matti Bar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcel Grünberger in the 26th minute of play. Marcel Grünberger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matti Bar having to interfere. Rik Sitzler's late challenge caught a FC Bad Cannstatt's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wim Polenski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Marcel Grünberger blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Matti Bar having to make a save. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
