Kurt Schnell hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Volkmarode's Hubert Peters tried to score from far away in the 15th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 23rd minute, Tord Jadamowitz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Todenmann's zone, Markus Rüppel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Burkhard Gabler came out of the goal and Markus Rüppel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 36 minutes, Markus Rüppel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Volkmarode's supporters crossed their fingers, but Markus Rüppel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 37th minute, Kurt Schnell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Wolfgang Rippert to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Volkmarode's zone, Wolfgang Rippert stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paavo Geissler came out of the goal and Wolfgang Rippert tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 62ndth minute of the game Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Todenmann's Burkhard Gabler was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Wolfgang Rippert in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paavo Geissler prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Vaclav Laing had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Burkhard Gabler took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bert Kosack, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
