Roger Simonsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Helge Ansmann in the 4th minute of the match. The supporters of Kleingladbach booed when FC Bayern München was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kilian Silding didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12th minute Holger Bermel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roger Simonsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Holger Bermel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Roger Simonsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. FC Bayern München's attentive Gustaw Kaznocha managed to snatch the ball when Nils Bermanseder made a throw-in in the 15th minute of the game. Sven Schriever blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lukasz Nowak having to make a save. Sven Schriever sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Helge Ansmann fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kleingladbach's protests and gave Helge Ansmann a yellow card for diving instead. In the 22nd match minute, Kleingladbach was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Helge Ansmann to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Holger Bermel in the 24th minute of play forced FC Bayern München's goalkeeper Roger Simonsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven Schriever in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lukasz Nowak saved Kleingladbach from getting behind. Vasco Schwöbel was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 28th minute. FC Bayern München's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Lukasz Nowak showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven Schriever, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. During the 31st minute of the match Helge Ansmann completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Helge Ansmann a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Kleingladbach getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Helge Ansmann hit a great ball. Lukasz Nowak made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sven Schriever in the 33rd minute of play. Manfred Kühn struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Lukasz Nowak didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Bayern München. If Kilian Silding had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sven Schriever blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lukasz Nowak having to make a save. Kleingladbach's Lukasz Nowak played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven Schriever in the 46th minute of play. Kilian Silding could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Lukasz Nowak made a huge save. In the 50th minute Sven Schriever shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lukasz Nowak saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The wind increased when Holger Bermel made the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sven Schriever in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lukasz Nowak prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 57th minute, Sven Schriever made a precise shot to the right of Lukasz Nowak. Kleingladbach's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. FC Bayern München's Kilian Silding got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Niklas Bachmeier's late challenge caught a FC Bayern München's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Niklas Bachmeier helped the player get up and apologised. In the 64th match minute, Kleingladbach was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Niklas Bachmeier to maneuver through the defense. Manfred Kühn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lukasz Nowak having to interfere. Lukasz Nowak dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. If Sven Schriever had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sven Schriever received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Lukasz Nowak tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 86 minutes into the match, Kleingladbach's goal looked a bit too open when Sven Schriever came free, but Lukasz Nowak reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
