Alfons Kühner kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. Sascha Andre Wickede fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lutz Stern having to interfere. 15 minutes into the match, Hammer SpVgg's goal looked a bit too open when Jork Heidemann came free, but Tomasz Diekämper reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tomasz Diekämper took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tobi Claus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jork Heidemann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomasz Diekämper having to interfere. Tomasz Diekämper made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tobi Claus in the 21st minute of play. The supporters of stahl-rot booed when Hammer SpVgg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Steidl didn't get a good kick on the ball. Benno Quednau was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 24th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Carsten Jungbluth hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Lutz Stern was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Anton Koch. Lutz Stern made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sascha Andre Wickede in the 32nd minute of play. Noel Kaiser's late challenge caught a Hammer SpVgg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Noel Kaiser helped the player get up and apologised. In the 36th match minute, stahl-rot was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Noel Kaiser to maneuver through the defense. In the 39th minute of the match Hammer SpVgg got a corner. stahl-rot's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Anton Koch ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 54 minutes of play stahl-rot's Carsten Jungbluth was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. Tobi Claus kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. When the match clock showed 70 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Brix Baader sped through stahl-rot's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lutz Stern. When Hammer SpVgg's Brix Baader in the 80th minute got a chance for a shot 80th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
