In the 15th minute, one of SV Darmstadt 98:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for SV Darmstadt 98. The referee gave Tomsi a penalty, 17 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Gunnar Thumerer, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of SV Darmstadt 98's Artur Kopplin. 1-0. Rupert Nimako's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Artur Kopplin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. SV Darmstadt 98's Artur Kopplin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rupert Nimako in the 23rd minute of play. In the 45th minute, Gottfried Jochimsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Rupert Nimako took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Artur Kopplin to make any attempt to save it.

Tomsi's Volker Räder proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save Tomsi from getting a goal against them.
