Thilo Borgelt made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Lars Krützfeld sent off a good shot on target. In the 9th minute, Tsuneo Ober hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. STV Horst's Benny Pelzer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Istvan Heimhold in the 10th minute of play. Gunther Polder recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Gunther Polder had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of STV Horst booed when 1.FC Mehlesdorf was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hanns Mall didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 20 minutes, Jörg Kolbe managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. STV Horst's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jörg Kolbe was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 21 minutes into the match, 1.FC Mehlesdorf's goal looked a bit too open when Benni Caspary came free, but Thilo Borgelt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, 1.FC Mehlesdorf's goalkeeper Thilo Borgelt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lars Krützfeld. In the 30th match minute, STV Horst was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tsuneo Ober to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 31 minutes, Istvan Heimhold managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 1.FC Mehlesdorf's supporters crossed their fingers, but Istvan Heimhold was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 36th minute, Gunther Polder left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The 1.FC Mehlesdorf fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in STV Horst's zone, Per Gulden stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benny Pelzer came out of the goal and Per Gulden tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, STV Horst's Frido Krügel got a free kick in the 40th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gunther Polder made a kick off. A collision led to 1.FC Mehlesdorf getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Hanns Mall hit a great ball. In the 58th minute Jörg Kolbe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thilo Borgelt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 59 minutes into the match, STV Horst's goalkeeper Benny Pelzer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gunther Polder. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benni Caspary in the 64th minute of play forced 1.FC Mehlesdorf's goalkeeper Thilo Borgelt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
