Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Anderlecht's Ivan Lanphant started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd match minute, Anderlecht was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernand Bauwens to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Anderlecht's zone, Joannes Van Eyck stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jozef Theys came out of the goal and Joannes Van Eyck tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Anderlecht getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Robert Mesmaekers hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Anderlecht's Fernand Bauwens got a free kick in the 7th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joannes Van Eyck in the 8th minute of play forced Anderlecht's goalkeeper Jozef Theys to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Anderlecht defense, Balthazar Spailer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jozef Theys. The Anderlecht fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jozef Theys should have stopped the shot. If Ivan Lanphant had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Youri Decock kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. After having played for 28 minutes, Ivan Lanphant managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Anderlecht's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ivan Lanphant was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Anderlecht's Jozef Theys played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gerard Valcke in the 31st minute of play. Anthoon Vos was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 33 minutes into the match. Guillaume Smet walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Jozef Theys took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Giovanni Soens, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 39 minutes into the match, Anderlecht's goal looked a bit too open when Gerard Valcke came free, but Jozef Theys reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Harald Verdonck missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 44 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Tommy Swinnen right hand side. Anderlecht's Jozef Theys played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marc Roockeloos in the 48th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joannes Van Eyck was the one to do the kick off. Harald Verdonck received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Tommy Swinnen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jozef Theys showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joannes Van Eyck in the 58th minute of the match. After 66 played minutes Anderlecht got a freekick which was hit by Fernand Bauwens. After a defensive mix-up in Anderlecht's zone, Youri Decock stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jozef Theys came out of the goal and Youri Decock tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 72 played minutes Anderlecht got a freekick which was hit by Maurus van Hacht. If Kurt Van Den Brande had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 95th minute, Robert Mesmaekers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
