In the 3rd minute of the match, Wes Struijf got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jannes Meulemans was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 5th minute Teo Coekelbergh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mike Hoeybroeck saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jorre Bauwmans got free with Jannes Meulemans in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in KFC Poelberg's zone, Nicolas Kerstens stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mike Hoeybroeck came out of the goal and Nicolas Kerstens tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tuur Van Havent was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 11 minutes into the match. In the 10th minute, one of Wolvertem-Merchtem:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Wolvertem-Merchtem. When the match had been going on for 13 minutes, KFC Poelberg's Jelle Coppens got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Jannes Meulemans. Wolvertem-Merchtem's Jannes Meulemans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Constant De Pauw in the 16th minute of play. Nicolas Kerstens fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mike Hoeybroeck having to interfere. Matias Van den Maegdenbergh charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Matias Van den Maegdenbergh the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Matias Van den Maegdenbergh kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Jannes Meulemans made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Wes Struijf sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wes Struijf got free with Jannes Meulemans in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 30 minutes of play, Wolvertem-Merchtem's Matias Van den Maegdenbergh made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mike Hoeybroeck was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Sam Jooris came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Wolvertem-Merchtem fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sam Jooris couldn't finish the play. A collision led to KFC Poelberg getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Jan-Pieter Persoens hit a great ball. Mike Hoeybroeck showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nicolas Kerstens, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Matias Van den Maegdenbergh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mike Hoeybroeck having to interfere. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nicolas Kerstens to strike the kick off in the second half. Jan-Pieter Persoens's late challenge caught a Wolvertem-Merchtem's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jan-Pieter Persoens helped the player get up and apologised. After 55 played minutes KFC Poelberg got a freekick which was hit by Jan-Pieter Persoens. Jan-Pieter Persoens got his second yellow card in the match during the 57th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind KFC Poelberg's goalkeeper Mike Hoeybroeck, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Matias Van den Maegdenbergh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Mike Hoeybroeck tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Wes Struijf had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Andries Lingier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wolvertem-Merchtem's supporters rose to their feet, but Andries Lingier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mike Hoeybroeck breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mike Hoeybroeck was a little too slow when Nicolas Kerstens got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 73rd minute. The score was now 1-2. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind KFC Poelberg's goalkeeper Mike Hoeybroeck, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 78th minute Constant De Pauw shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Meulemans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sam Jooris fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mike Hoeybroeck having to interfere. Mike Hoeybroeck made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicolas Kerstens in the 91st minute of play. 92 minutes into the match, Andries Lingier notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of KFC Poelberg's Mike Hoeybroeck. Mike Hoeybroeck was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Wolvertem-Merchtem's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
