In the 15th minute, Jacob Teunis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Izmirspor's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Amel the free kick. The supporters of Amel booed when Izmirspor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Etienne Van Hespen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Anton Coenen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benjamin Gillis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. Ian Verlinden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 28th play minutes Ivan Van Den Broeck shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Bastian Huyghens and just under the crossbar into goal. Bastian Huyghens didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Joe Gielis went, in the 36th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. 41 minutes into the match, Izmirspor's goal looked a bit too open when Joe Gielis came free, but Bastian Huyghens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benjamin Gillis made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when Ian Verlinden sent off a good shot on target. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anton Coenen to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Amel getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Robby Boegaerts hit a great ball. Izmirspor's Anton Coenen got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Benjamin Gillis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anton Coenen in the 58th minute of the match. Benjamin Gillis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian Verlinden, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Ivan Van Den Broeck had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 71st match minute, Amel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Victor De Keijser to maneuver through the defense. Benjamin Gillis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian Verlinden, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bernd Sanders during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Bernd Sanders hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. After 83 played minutes Izmirspor got a freekick which was hit by Willy Maes. In the 84th minute, Gilles Ingelborgh fired a really elegant long shot, but Bastian Huyghens threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Willy Maes's late challenge caught a Amel's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Willy Maes helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Izmirspor getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Willy Maes hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Ivan Van Den Broeck took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Bastian Huyghens to make any attempt to save it. Bastian Huyghens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Joe Gielis in the 89th minute. Ivan Van Den Broeck blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bastian Huyghens having to make a save. In the 97th minute, Robby Boegaerts fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Bastian Huyghens, passed just outside the right post. The Izmirspor supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Amel's performance. The match ended with a win for Amel.
