In the 3rd match minute, Izmirspor was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Etienne Van Hespen to maneuver through the defense. Bastian Huyghens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Charl Van Huytvenne in the 4th minute. Anton Coenen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Stein Wery tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After recieving a nice pass, Izmirspor's Willy Maes tried to score from far away in the 9th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Ian Verlinden's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stein Wery was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. In the 18thth minute of the game Anton Coenen who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but VC Mortsel's Stein Wery was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 22nd minute Berten De Kerper shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stein Wery saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Anton Coenen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Maxim Van Arschot might have been able to make a better finish in the 28th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bastian Huyghens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Maxim Van Arschot ran back to his position shaking his head. Anton Coenen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Stein Wery tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of VC Mortsel booed when Izmirspor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Berten De Kerper didn't get a good kick on the ball. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Maxim Van Arschot to strike the kick off in the second half. Jens Winnepenninck's late challenge caught a VC Mortsel's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jens Winnepenninck helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Izmirspor getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Jens Winnepenninck hit a great ball. 55 minutes had been played when some careless play by Izmirspor's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Harold Valckenaers was slow to take the kick. During this time VC Mortsel's players had a chance to rest. 64 minutes into the match, VC Mortsel's goal looked a bit too open when Anton Coenen came free, but Stein Wery reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Stein Wery made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Ian Verlinden sent off a good shot on target. Ian Verlinden blasted a shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Stein Wery having to make a save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ian Verlinden got free with Stein Wery in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 72 minutes into the match, VC Mortsel's goalkeeper Stein Wery had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ian Verlinden. Charl Van Huytvenne sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ken Verbraecken during the 79th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, VC Mortsel's Ken Verbraecken got a free kick in the 80th minute. When VC Mortsel's Charl Van Huytvenne in the 82nd minute got a chance for a shot 82nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Izmirspor's goalie prevented a goal. Bastian Huyghens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maxim Van Arschot, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 87th minute, Izmirspor's Anton Coenen ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Stein Wery. Stein Wery yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Ian Verlinden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Stein Wery tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Anton Coenen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 96th minute, Ian Verlinden made a precise shot to the right of Stein Wery. VC Mortsel's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Izmirspor players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
