The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Athis's Christoph De Mesemaekre proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to save Athis from getting a goal against them. 6 minutes into the match, KAA Werbeek's goal looked a bit too open when Charlie Goossens came free, but Maarten Sterks reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Charlie Goossens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Athis's Christoph De Mesemaekre played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Regis Libreghts in the 11th minute of play. KAA Werbeek's Maarten Sterks played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Richmond Van Heerle in the 13th minute of play. When Richmond Van Heerle came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Athis fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Richmond Van Heerle couldn't finish the play. If Anton Grootaerts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Anton Grootaerts fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christoph De Mesemaekre having to interfere. Anton Grootaerts sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Charlie Goossens came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Athis fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Charlie Goossens couldn't finish the play. Anton Grootaerts succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 43rd playminute. Richmond Van Heerle received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Maarten Sterks tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Regis Libreghts was the one to do the kick off. Christoph De Mesemaekre showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anton Grootaerts, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Christoph De Mesemaekre took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Regis Libreghts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 62nd match minute, Athis was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richy Clinckspoor to maneuver through the defense. Christoph De Mesemaekre showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Regis Libreghts in the 64th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Anton Grootaerts's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Christoph De Mesemaekre was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. 71 minutes into the match, KAA Werbeek's Joannes Vrolijcx broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After 73 played minutes Athis got a freekick which was hit by Jeffery Camps. The corner ended in Joannes Vrolijcx almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Athis's Christoph De Mesemaekre did a great save. Regis Libreghts might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Christoph De Mesemaekre. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Regis Libreghts ran back to his position shaking his head. Anton Grootaerts recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 83 played minutes Athis got a freekick which was hit by Perry De Bruijn. 93 minutes into the match, Charlie Goossens had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Maarten Sterks. KAA Werbeek's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Charlie Goossens was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
